Have you ever set up a domino topple? Carefully and purposely, you place the dominoes in a rowjust far enough apart so that one will be touched by the previous and fall, creating a glorious result. When your labor is complete, you gently tap the first domino with your finger. Exhilaration and excitement fill you as you hear the click-clacking sound of each domino as it topples onto the next, and you watch the pattern youve fashioned evolve and take shape. Then, when all the dominoes lay in a heap, you smile as you congratulate yourself on a job well done.
Thats how I see Gods divine intervention in my life. Lovingly, he sets up each event so that it will cause the next one to occur. Most peopleespecially those who dont know Godsee this as chance, fate, luck, or some cosmic meeting of the universe. Not me. What others might see as a chance meeting, I see as God intervening in my life, guaranteeing the accomplishment of His purposes for me.
Now, occasionally, I may know, or at least think I know, where the events that He is placing in my life lead, and I become impatient. I then begin to attempt to set the dominoes up myself, only I end up bumping the table or shaking the dominoes and causing them to fall backwards; or partial reactions occur that are out of sequence, unnecessary, and unintended. Thats when I have to pick the dominoes up and hand them back to God and say, "Here, Lord, Ive messed up again." Graciously, my loving, heavenly Father takes the dominoes and places them in their respective places for His will in my life to be fulfilled.
In Jeremiah 29:11, God states that He has a plan for every life. In order for this plan to be fulfilled, we must allow situations to happen. These situations can be pleasurable and fun, but some are utterly miserable and occasionally painful. Even though, we dont always like the circumstances that happen to us, we must remember that these are part of the Masters plan for our lives; Hes placing dominoes on a board.
Sometimes, His divine intervention is welcome and expected. This reassures us that He is working in our lives. Other times, we dont comprehend that He has intervened until the small event is over, and we realize another domino has been placed. Still other times, He has to step in and stop us from destroying the layout of his plan. This type of divine intervention is not always easy. Actually, it can be downright painfulphysically, emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually. But these are all part of the master layout of the domino board in order to cause the desired reaction God wants in our lives. And, when I think about how these events occur, I stand in awe of His power.
